Women participated in one another's organizations and activities, including speaking tours and visits, and each group used the experience of the other to stimulate its own progress. In addition to the prominent figures of the day, Harrison includes information about lesser-known suffragists whose names and actions have been largely lost to history.

The interaction between the British and American movements began in the 1870s when a network of suffrage friendships and relationships started to take shape, and cooperation escalated in the last two decades of the century. Connections expanded and peaked between 1900 and 1914, but, with the outbreak of war in August 1914, the extensive interaction came to an abrupt end. Harrison provides a history and comparison of the two movements to give the reader context and a background against which to study the international suffrage campaign. She assesses correspondence, diaries, journals, memoirs, pamphlets, articles, and coverage within the suffrage press itself.

Opens your mind (if you let it)

I'm a fashion designer and I have training in classic pattern making. This is NOT a book to make standard clothes.
This is a book to explore pattern making beyond traditional limits. However, some clothes in this book can be done for wear (see a pair of draped pants) and some could be done with a little adjustment. It's perfect for fashion design students, fashion professionals and costume designers.
If you want to explore your creativity, go far beyond your own imagination and learn some new forms to approach pattern making, this book if for you.
If you just want to make a classic dress for a party, better buy another book.
I recommend this one and the other two previous books (Pattern magic I and II, also in english).

Incredible again....

for those of us who get it....As with her previous books this one won't disappoint. I was surprised that 80% of what's here can be duplicated by the novice home sewer...and that these shapes while I will tone them down a bit can be formed by using knits--- two peas in a pod AWESOME---apple seed I WISH---and pattern mystery--thinking of a way to incorporate into my own dolman or pullover --...FULL sloper pattern included in this one....Great you're not up for the challenge put it on your coffee table. It will invoke some interesting talk...

An great follow up from the previous books

The book is split into two parts, the first is about seeing garments in a different perspective and creative cuts and the second part is on how to use the properties of stretch fabrics through drape and manipulation. A few of the styles would slot seamlessly into the previous books.
The book is all about manipulating fabric. It's not about flattering the body rather it's about what can be done with the constraints you have in garment design. The aesthetics is in appreciating this.

It's a fantastic reference book and I've seen some of these styles (from all 3 books) being used in actual collections (Levi's, Sara Philips and Gail Sorronda). The apple peel shape is something I've already seen from Levi's with their jeans for example. In regards to the designers and author, I couldn't say who did it 'first'.

The instructions, line drawings and photos go into great detail and having a few patterns in the book really is a added bonus which gets you excited about trying some of these ideas. I'm glad that it has been translated as I bought the first two books in Japanese before the English translation ones came out as the concepts, photos and line drawings were worth buying the book alone (I did buy the first two again in English).

Two books I also recommend as 'companions' to these are the Drape Drape books by Hisako Sato.

***READ BEFORE BUYING***

Being the complete potterhead that I am, I loved this book. I reccommend it for anyone who is interested in reading an informative encyclopedia-like book that you can find in the home of many wizarding folk. This book is supposed to be in similar format to a dictionary. DO NOT BUY IT IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A STORY. This book is used in the wizarding world as a guide on topics such as where to find a Hippogriff or what a knarl really is. Page wise, it is on the small side and lacks pictures, but if you love it as much as I do, it doesn't really matter. Multible people gave this only one star (undeservingly so in my opinion). Many of these people did so purely because they didn't research the product (by using the internet or READING THE HP BOOKS) before buying and were looking for a fairly tale or story similar to the new upcoming movie based on the book, not an encyclopedia. Do not let these bad reviews stop you from buying this book. I do suggest actually going to a book store rather than buying it from amazon though. That way, you will be able to skim through the pages and see if this is your kind of book. In addition, I read a few unsettling reviews about how in the name of God there is going to be a movie made based on the book. In case you are interested the movie is going to be about the author, Magizoologist Newt Scamander. Hope my review was helpful.

Another Trip to the Wizarding World

I've never read a book in screenplay format before, I steered clear of HP and the Cursed Child for that very reason. For Potterheads worried that Fantastic Beasts will be another Harry Potter fan fiction that messes with your view of the original characters, fear not. Fantastic Beasts occurs decades before little Harry was born, and involves very different themes. While the original HP series revolved around one hero and his fight against the all powerful You Know Who, Fantastic Beasts seemed more lighthearted without being childish.

This particular cast of characters was a pleasure to get to know. I loved seeing Muggles other than the Dursleys in the wizarding world. There's Newt Scamander, a magic zoologist, dorky and loveable. There's Jacob Kowalski, a bumbling Muggle caught up in the mess, learning about the magical world as we do. And then there are Tina and Queenie, beautiful, talented, charming and kindhearted sisters, stuck in menial positions in the wizarding world and wanting more.

This screenplay is wonderful because we get to visit the rich detailed wizarding world again. It was wonderful to see the magical creatures Harry learned about on the written page again. It was wonderful feeling that sense of anticipation opening a new Rowling novel again knowing you won't be able to do anything but read for the next 8 hours. The play was fun, witty, and just brilliant. The hardcover copy is beautiful and will go well with my hardcover copies of the original HP series. I would definitely recommend this book to new HP readers and Potterheads alike.

Nothing New...Just Okay

This is the first time I've ever felt compelled to write a review on Amazon for anything. Not because the book was super awesome or super terrible, but mostly because I'm pretty sure many of the previous reviews were written by friends of the author or test readers. It's definitely not a 5-star book (in my opinion).

THE GOOD

If you're a new blogger or a blogger with less than a year or two's worth of experience, this is probably a great book. The author does a great job of organizing the information into sections and she actually provides actionable steps that will improve your blog. Many are common sense - such as "write awesome content" and "determine your main theme..."

The chapter on social media was extremely helpful. I've struggled with figuring out how to utilize Pinterest for my own blogs as my focus is not DIY or anything home related. In fact, this chapter alone made it worth the $4.99 price tag for me.

The blogger's planner is pretty cool. You can, however, get the planner free from the website without buying the book.

THE BAD

There is nothing new in the monetization chapters of the book. Meaning, no awesome techniques or ideas that haven't already been talked about by 100 other authors in 100 other blogging ebooks.

A large portion of the book is dedicated to things that a blogger with any experience at all already knows. Most bloggers don't need to read a book to realize that content is king or that we should rename images with a descriptive name before publishing them on our sites.

This obviously isn't a book on SEO techniques, but I totally disagree with the author that SEO is an "old school" way of generating traffic. The bulk of my traffic has always come from search engines and, while social media is changing how we use the internet, I don't think enough emphasis can be put on the importance of search engines as a source of traffic for most blogs.

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you are just starting out, this is one decent book of many available. I read the book in a day and highlighted approximately 5 action items that I'd like to start incorporating in my blogging.

Don't expect this book to teach you any new or innovative techniques and you won't be let down. It seems like every blogger today who makes a decent living is now writing a book on, you guessed it, blogging. I'd highly suggest spending your time reading stuff written by those whose sole purpose is teaching better blogging techniques...like the Smart Passive Income blog by Pat Flynn or ProBlogger with Darren Rowse.

I would have given this book 4 stars. It contains some good and useful information.
The author recommend using Wordpress to build your blog. It's a popular platform, so that's probably sound advice. However, the author fails to notify readers about the crucial difference between Wordpress.COM and Wordpress.ORG !!!
If you start constructing your blog through wordpress.COM, you will likely spend a lot of time picking a theme and starting to write and organize your posts, only to discover that wordpress.COM does NOT support any ways to monetize your site. You can NOT place any adds on a wordpress.COM hosted site. Of course, that defeats the whole purpose of having a "blog for profit".
You will also waste a lot of time trying to move your site off of wordpress.com afterwards.

If you want to use Wordpress, it's crucial that you go to wordpress.ORG and pay to set up with one of the hosting services that they recommend, to be able to monetize your site.

Though the author is a "DIY" and "spending less" blogger, she admits that she does not do her own website design. Maybe she was simply unaware of the two Wordpress options. If she had prior knowledge of that, then I feel it is negligent of her to not stress that difference to her readers.

Great Book for New Bloggers & Experienced Bloggers!

I have been blogging since the early 2000s when a blog wasn't even called a blog! In that time since, I have managed dozens of blogs, sold several and earned a living by blogging...this book was a breath of fresh air and still very informative.

Some of my favorite take aways from the book, had nothing to do with the 'profit' aspect of blogging. Ruth's perspective on finding the right content and voice for your audience was right on. Her chapter "Work Smarter & Not Harder" gave me several tips on how to streamline my blogging (something I needed dearly).

As far as the monetization tips in this book, they are very detailed which is great for a newbie blogger who is looking to make money for his/her blog.

Overall, I recommend this book regardless if you are a new blogger or have been blogging for years!

A great book for those who want to dive into AWS. Highly recommended.

I just finished taking AWS's Operations training as well as AWS's Security training. I bought this book in hopes that it would assist me in preparing for my AWS DevOps certification. This book did not disappoint as it contained much of the same information as the Operations class I took. It was a great way for me to review what I learned, plus get my hands dirtier in AWS.

If you want to learn about AWS and its offerings, I highly recommend this book. It's suitable for beginners to cloud technology provided they have some basic system administration background, and some networking experience wouldn't hurt either. You'll learn about the popular AWS services, what they do, and how to use them. You'll also learn about some of the not-so-well-known, but useful, AWS services too.

Yeah, there are some sentences that are mis-worded but it really doesn't take away from the content.

There is a huge overlap between what I learned in AWS Operations training and what I read in this book. Do not misunderstand me, however. This is not a substitute for formal training, nor is it an official study guide for the certification, but I believe it will be helpful in preparing for my certification exam later this year.

This book is wrote for beginner who just start to get understand of AWS. Easy understanding but some example in this book were wrong spelling and Command line problems.

i did not want to order this and now I cannot cancel this. I have wasted all my paycheck on Amazon kindle books that I will never read and spent lots of money.
